The South Pacific nation of Tonga is in uproar after its annual beauty pageant was marred by accusations of bullying, backstabbing and racism, prompting calls by ladies’s rights leaders for the pageant business to be deserted altogether.

The nation’s Miss Heilala pageant descended into chaos on Friday when the outgoing winner had her microphone lower in the course of a speech and one other lady was allegedly racially abused whereas delivering the keynote speech.
